Oops. We Might Be Winning! Now What?

On MSNBC's Hardball with Mike Barnicle (guesting for Chris Matthews) last night,

"...there is some progress on the military front that I think permits us to try for a few more months to have some effort at political reconciliation. That's an inconvenient fact for someone who's already decided that the mission has failed, but it's the reality on the ground..."
Guess the guest...

President Bush? Hillary Clinton? Obama? Gulianni? Edwards? Romney? Kucinich?

Nope. See: transcript to the Monday show

None other than a couple of New York Times columnists. Specifically, Michael O'Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack of the Brookings Institution (definitely not right wing) in an op-ed called, "A War We Just Might Win"

Don't worry...they're not being paid by Big Oil or Haliburton. They are critics of the Iraq war to begin with, but after a recent visit they wrote...
"Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration’s miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily “victory” but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with."
Also, there's this AP story and headline: U.S. Toll in Iraq Lowest in 8 Months

Oops. Someone should tell these folks, but they might be too busy with their job of pestering to have any time to keep up with the news...

Activists take protest into Harkin's office
CEDAR RAPIDS - Five peace activists protested the Iraq war along First Avenue Monday afternoon before entering the Cedar Rapids office of Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, to air their frustration with the war before a member of Harkin’s staff.
And remember those two dorks walking across the country in a March For Peace? See my post, "Maybe Shower For Peace Would Work Better"...

No one has so far joined them despite massive media coverage everywhere from Boston, New York, Colorado, Connecticut, and a big push by a lot of little news outlets along the way. It made the Cedar Rapids Gazette on a slow news day. Iowa City Press Citizen put it in the little 5-line "In Brief" section on page X-42.

Remember they were "hoping for a rally" in Iowa City when they arrived?

Hoping for a rally didn't actually create one any more than hoping for peace is going to do any good.

Still...their "March for Peace" continues into Muscatine county...where the movement doubled in size! Yes, two more dorks have joined in the "march"...

Putting their heart and sole into peace
What was two for the better half of the march became three on Saturday night, when Antonio Kies, 31, of Omaha, Neb., joined in Iowa City.

Three became four Monday afternoon after Isabelle Salmon, 23, of Seattle, Wash., was dropped off on Iowa Highway F70 between Muscatine and West Liberty.
Their "log" of all the action while on the peace march is somewhere on the March For Peace website they set up. Don't worry...I already checked it for you. Nothing to see...nothing happening.

Except in Iraq.
