Ticket Scalping Now Legal In MN
I'll never forget the time The Who came to Iowa in the 80's. People were going crazy for tickets...trading cars for a pair was not out of the question when reading the newspaper classifieds.
When the greatest live band of all time, U2, made their first "Joshua Tree" appearance in Minnesota, I slept in line (20th person) outside the St Paul Civic Center to score my limit of 4 tickets. I sold two of them for $200 dollars each. In Iowa.
Now, Iowa doesn't need a law against ticket scalping because nobody comes here anymore worth scalping tickets...but Minnesota is said to now be "moving with the times"...
Once a crime, ticket scalping is now just fine in Minn.
ST. PAUL (AP) ---eBay is famous for shutting down auctions of tickets when they originate from a state that outlaws it. I guess they have some re-programming to do now.
...starting Wednesday, Ticket King and other outfits like it can legally turn a profit in Minnesota reselling tickets to sporting events, concerts and theatrical productions. The state's anti-scalping law will be wiped off the books.
"It gets rid of the stigma that surrounds our business a little bit," Nowakowski said of the law change. "I just think for years people in Minnesota have been taught that buying or selling tickets at over face value is very similar to buying and selling drugs."
People behind the pushes argue the laws are outdated and hard to enforce in a day when ticket brokers can operate as easily in cyberspace as they can on a stadium sidewalk.
