Bridge Collapses...Women and Minorities Hardest Hit

All three of my brothers live in the Minneapolis/St Paul metro...as well as my sister in law, most cousins and other family members. They're all okay.

The odds were pretty small to begin with, but it's a question a lot of people instantly want answers to.

As of this post, 9 dead, 60 injured, 20 missing

Meanwhile, Bush Derangement Syndrome is alive and well at DailyKos. Choice comments like those I highlight below are how conspiracy theories begin. And to think Democrats are choosing to attend the convention of these nutjubs rather than the old Clinton-led DLC. Whew...

...We don't need terrorists, we have ourselves. I don't know why we obsess about terrorism so much. I predict this will turn out to be the result of almost thirty years of nothing in our nation's infrastructure being funded and maintained properly. This is just horrible and no words can adequately express my sorrow and horror.

...I Heard Some People Wonder Aloud... if the bridge was brought down by terrorists. As an engineer, I can tell you that no infrastructure maintenance will have the same effect so we don't need terrorists. We have an administration spending us into a hole while the bridges, road and public spaces crumble here in our country. Bush to The Hague in 2009!

...Second, believe me, this is going to be infrastructure delays + global warming = disaster. It has been over 90 degrees here for most of the last two months, when ten years ago, it would only be 15 days over 90 a year. These bridges were not designed to deal with long term heat. They were designed to deal with long term cold. The weather has changed, and the infrastructure hasn't kept up with it.

...Years ago, I drove on that bridge everyday. It's unbelievable. I drove every day on that bridge that collapsed, first as a college student at the University of Minnesota, and then to commute to work. Ever since I moved, the Democrats have never been able to win the governship in that state.

...That's what you get with Republican rule. Infrastructure erodes and bridges start collapsing for the sake of lower taxes.

...Are You Awake America? When do we say no to 45 cents out of a dollar in taxes going to Bush war profiteers and his failed wars? If we don't act TODAY, who will die TOMORROW?

It's Rove, Bush, Global warming, tax cuts...you name it. And the fact that none of these morons realize that the bridge was already being worked on (ie infrastructure spending) never enters their minds.

Wow. These people vote.
